III. Major areas covered: A. Word attack skills B. Group story-reading C. Individual reading checkouts D. Workbook activities E. Oral answering of questions about reading selections F. Writing answers to a variety of comprehension items G. Interventions as needed
IV. Materials and learning activities: Reading selections will: A. Give specific factual information on a particular topic B. Be fictional and nonfictional C. Contain a high percentage of new words D. Be from magazines, newspapers, texts and other sources
V. Procedures: Each day, students will read word lists. Following, the whole group will read a story using those vocabulary words, each student taking a turn reading aloud.
Next students will individually read a passage to another student. Finally they will do independent work in the workbook. Students will earn points for each part of the lesson. These points will be exchanged for a combination of grades and tangible rewards.
